For-profit music events must pay royalties. This is the understanding of judge Galdino Toledo Junior, from the São Paulo Court of Justice, who ordered the suspension of shows by the Mexican band Rebelde, which will tour in São Paulo, until public performance royalties are paid to Ecad — Central Office Collection and Distribution. The person responsible for the Morumbi Special Data stadium, the location of the performance, was also ordered not to allow the band to perform until the royalties were collected. The group's show in São Paulo, which is the newest sensation among children and teenagers, is scheduled for next Friday (7/10). The following day, the band performs at Maracanã, in Rio de Janeiro. The group has already performed in Manaus, Belém, Goiânia, Vitória and Curitiba. According to Ecad, with the exception of the performance in Curitiba, in all the others, the copyright for the songs was not paid. The collection office is unable to inform who the authors of the songs are because they claim that they did not receive a list of the songs that would be played during the show. According to Ecad, the amounts collected will be passed on to the Sociedad de Autores y Compositores de Musica, the institution responsible for collecting public performance copyrights in Mexico. There, distribution will be made to composers.
